Bruckner made her debut when she was just 11. Her appearances were on some TV pilots as well as the daytime drama The Bold and the Beautiful, in 1999. At the age of 15 Bruckner received her first lead part in an independent documentary Blue Car (2002) in which she was a school student caught in a relationship with her teacher played by David Strathairn. Roger Ebert, a film critic, wrote that Bruckner nailed this challenging script in complete conviction. Bruckner was nominated to win an Independent Spirit Award for "Best female leading actress" for her performance in the film. She was raised along with three siblings, one brother and 2 sisters. They later divorced. Her paternal grandfather is German. In Hungary Her parents were first met and then immigrated to the United States in 1984 as part of an immigration settlement for refugees in Italy. She has two brothers. She also has two other sisters.
